Installation
Install Fresh News on macOS, Windows or Linux, and open an unsigned build the first time.
Fresh News is a Mac app with an optional iPhone companion. It does not ask for an account, and it works without an AI provider: you still get a ranked edition of headlines grouped by event.
Download
| System | File | Needs |
|---|---|---|
| macOS | FreshNews-v1-beta-macos.zip | macOS 12 Monterey or later |
| iPhone | FreshNews-v1-ios.ipa | iOS 17 or later, and a Mac running Fresh News |
| Windows, Linux | No build in this beta yet | Build from source |
macOS
- Download the
.zipand unzip it (Safari usually does this for you). - Drag Fresh News into your Applications folder.
- Open it the first time as described below.
Opening an unsigned build
The beta is not signed and notarised yet, so macOS blocks it the first time. Control-click (or right-click) the app, choose Open, then Open again. If macOS says the app is damaged, run this in Terminal:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Fresh News.app"
iPhone
The iPhone app is a companion: it reads the edition your Mac builds. It is not on the App Store yet, so the beta is an .ipa you sideload:
- Download the
.ipaon your computer. - Install it with a sideloading tool such as AltStore or Sideloadly, signed with your own Apple ID.
- On the phone, turn on Settings > Privacy & Security > Developer Mode, then trust your Apple ID under Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.
- Set up the shared folder: see Phone and sync.
With a free Apple ID, iOS signs the app for seven days and allows three sideloaded apps at a time; your sideloading tool can refresh it.
First start
On first start Fresh News fetches news from its built-in sources. Your first edition appears within a minute or two. Next: your first edition.
