DocsUsing Fresh News
Phone and sync
Sync your desktop and iPhone through a folder you already have, with no server.
The iPhone app is a reader. It does not fetch news or call AI providers; it reads the edition your computer writes into a shared folder.
Set it up
- Install the iPhone app: see Installation.
- On the computer: Settings > Phone and sync > Choose folder. iCloud Drive works well; so does Dropbox, Syncthing, or anything the Files app can open.
- On the phone: Choose sync folder and pick the same folder.
What is shared
| Data | Direction |
|---|---|
| Edition, story text, sources, validation info | desktop → phone |
| Saved stories | both ways, newest change wins |
| Topic on/off and weights | both ways, newest change wins |
| Notification preferences | both ways |
| API keys, providers, investigations, feed summaries | never shared |
How fresh is it?
The phone always tells you how old its edition is: Updated 3 h ago with a mint dot, or Updated yesterday at 07:31 with a hint to open Fresh News on your computer.
Your computer builds editions only while Fresh News is open. A morning reminder on the phone describes the edition the phone last received; announcing newer news would need a push server, which Fresh News deliberately does not use.
If nothing shows on the phone
Check that both devices use the same folder, that the computer has synced (Settings > Phone and sync), and that iCloud has finished uploading. The phone waits up to 15 seconds for iCloud downloads, then uses what it has and says what it found.
